Letter Letter	Dear Mr. Franzoy/Senator Bingaman, As a concerned New Mexican who wants to promote responsible and safe use of our public lands, I am writing about the growing problem of reckless off-highway vehicles (OHV) riding. I understand that OHVs are important to many people's lifestyles in New Mexico, but a small number of reckless riders are creating safety problems, destroying our beautiful landscapes, and overburdening law enforcement. To address these problems, I am urging you as the head of the board to take the lead on the following common-sense and effective steps: 1. Commit at least 65 percent of the fund to enforce safety standards and prevent reckless riding; 2. Withhold funding for new trails until a self-sustaining enforcement system is in place; 3. Commit to working in partnership with state and federal agencies to promote safety and responsible riding; and, 4. Commit to marketing focused on the promotion of safe and responsible riding. Now is the time for common-sense OHV standards that promote responsible use of New Mexico's lands while keeping these lands safe and intact. Sincerely,
